Season Closing Comments from VP & General Manager, Dan Kennedy:

Season - The season for me was a great success. To finish with a regular season record of 23-19 which was just four games off the top record in the league was extremely exciting for us, especially being a first year team in a league that is ranked as one of the top collegiate summer leagues in the country. Although losing 2-1 in the best of three in the playoffs, it was definitely disappointing losing in the playoffs, but again, first year team, all northeast players in the playoffs, we knew if our players played hard the playoffs were possible, but not many people even gave us a chance to finish .500, never mind make the playoffs. GREAT SEASON!!

Season Highlights

- Purchase of team from former Boston Red Sox General Manager, Dan Duquette.

- 5 Bristol players make the All-star team.

- Finishing with the 4th best record in the League. Making the playoffs. Seeing our players volunteering their time at libraries, little leagues, and young people in the community. They were reading, playing games, singing songs, and just trying to be a positive influence on young people.

-Being associated with quality people both on and off the field for the entire season.

Players and Coaches - The players played the way they were supposed to...HARD - from the first game until the last game. We had great kids, we had hard working kids, and we had all northeast players except one, and that player will be attending college in the northeast. It was a joy to watch. Our coaches did a great job understanding our players and their abilities. Coach Hall definitely has direct and no bull tactics, but when the players look back, they will see that his approach will surely help them in their future baseball careers. It takes a week or two to get on the same page as there are up to 28 players coming from 28 different college programs. getting them on the same page can take some time. Our players and coaches adjusted just fine as we jumped out of the gate with an 11-4 record.

Volunteers - our interns and volunteer staff were second to none. They showed up every game with smiles on their faces and ready to do whatever it took to make every home game special.

Town of Bristol - Between Mayor Ward, Ed Swicklas, and the entire Park Staff, playing in the town of Bristol and playing on Muzzy Field was nothing short of the best. Other teams said that Muzzy Field was the best field in the league.

Host Families - There is nothing I can say except, unbelievable. They were first class, supportive, and as one player said, "My family away from home." Another player said they would never lose touch and they would give them season tickets if they ever made it to play for a Major league team. We as an organization are always concerned when placing college age young men with a family they do not know. The Host Families never seemed to have  complained and they were a group of the most unbelievable people. What a treat.

Fans - what can I say. We had some funky game times due to rain and at one point the "Bristol Tornado."  The fans came out, they were supportive, and they were a definite home advantage.  It was great to see all the Bristol Hats and T-Shirts all over town.  Every time I went somewhere, there was someone wearing something with the Bristol "B" on it.

Next Season - Being a first year team this year, I feel we have an understanding of what holes we have and what type of player we need to go further in the playoffs next year. Now, in such a strong league as the NECBL, that does not mean we will go further nor does it mean we even make the playoffs.  There were teams this year that "on paper" were better than us.  Our players played harder than others and we won some games that we "on paper" were not supposed to win.  Having that right mix of players, coaching, talent, and desire is crucial for success in this league. We are hoping to have many players return. Not only did we have quality players from the Northeast, but we had players that were young and some of those young players were some of the better players in the league.

During Christmas this year (2010-2011), our players will be available for camps, clinics, readings, etc while they are home from college on their holiday break.  Anyone interested can simply send me (Dan Kennedy) an email at d.kennedy@bristolcollegiatebaseball.org and I will surely communicate to make those appearances happen.
